Translating English to German
German word order is the real obstacle. Subordinate clauses push the verb to the end, so a translator working left to right produces something grammatical-looking and wrong; the whole sentence has to be understood before the first German word is chosen. Then there is compounding: English writes "software development agreement", German writes Softwareentwicklungsvertrag as one word, and splitting it marks the text as machine-produced instantly. Every noun is capitalised, which no amount of pattern matching gets right without knowing which words are nouns.
